The Summer Replacement: Life

The problem with this show is that it is ungoogleable. That's it.

I could go on about how Life helped open the door for Fox's The Good Guys (likely to be a future installment in this series!), or that it was a breath of fresh air for NBC after Law and Order: MTV. But that's not what makes this show great.

Life is the most accurate depiction of Los Angeles I've ever seen. Except for the fact that LAPD homicide's reach appears to go far beyond the city, you can tell that the writers cared to correct years of smug manhattan-based slander. Of course people ride the subway!

Damian Lewis' character Charlie Crews is a breath of fresh air as a detective whose seeking out the bad guys without being one himself, and his zen musings amuse and inspire. Perhaps most importantly is that this is the rare show that overcame its own canellation. Sure, Rand Ravich could have left things open-ended, or put together a choppy happy ending like Pushing Daisies, but instead he rewarded the viewer with a conclusion that was satisfying without feeling rushed.
Atherton!

So make sure to put this on your list, and I assure you this blog entry will make sense.

Next time: Tweegasm at Niagra Falls, and when Ben Stiller was unfamous.
